Whenver i saw the sign " No riding on shoulder", i thought it meant you couldn't drive while on someones shoulders. After that i would look for people sitting on eachothers shoulders and driving!
I used to believe that 'skyscrapers' were not buildings, but the planes that went across the sky and left the vapor trails behind them...it looked like they were scraping the sky!

When I was young my parents would toot the car horn every time we drove through a tunnel, and told us that it was the tunnel honking at us. My sisters and I believed this for YEARS and were always sooo excited to go through a tunnel!

When I was little my parents told me that the signs warning of "road slumps" were warning motorists of little creatures called slumps which had big feet and ran along the roads. I used to look out for these slumps all along the road, but somehow I never saw one.....
I once asked my mother if a car could move with no driver inside. She replied that technically, this could happen, but that it wasn't likely. Nevertheless, I spent a good year or two searching for driverless cars whenever we were on the road.

I used to think that when I was in the car,I was invisible. So I would always make faces at other cars and stick my tongue out at them.

When I was little we would travel about 2 hours to my grandmother's house. I used to believe that in order to get to my grandmother's house, I had to steer the car exactly the way they did...2 inches to the left at this particular time, 1 inch to the right at this particular time, etc. I thought all I would have to do is memorize every little movement of the steering wheel and I would get there!
I used to believe my dad when he said he was psychic and could tell me the exact moment when the light was going to turn green. I would watch in amazement as the light would turn green right as dad would say "now". I thought he was magic.
I used to believe that when I waved at airplanes in the sky that they could see me and would "wave" back by flashing their lights. As we know, there are lights flashing on planes often but when I was little I thought that the lights meant not only that they could see me but that they were waving at me as well. I didn't even realize that the lights were flashing before I even waved! Silly me!

When I was a kid, the room of our house that I most seldom went in was my sister's bedroom. It was in a wing of the house that came closest to the house next door. So I've finally decided that echoes between our house and the one next door might explain the different sounds I heard occasionally when I did go in her room, like when my sister was away and I was preparing the room for other guests or something like that. Anyhow, on some occasions when I WAS in that least familiar room of the house, I would hear airplanes flying over. Not surprising, except that they seemed to make an eerily different sound from airplanes ad I'd ever heard them from anywhere else, including other rooms of the house. For quite some time that sound had me convinced that those were some strange and different kind of airplanes, whose flight routes took them over that corner of our house, but never over any other part of our house, and so I never heard them from elsewhere in the house. In trying to picture what kind of airplanes those strange and different ones might be, I for some reason pictured airplanes that could fly, even though they had no wings.

When i was little I used to believe that there were little mice flipping switches in the stoplight, and they would go up ladders to get to the yellow from the green and the red from the yellow etc. I remember telling my mom, and always wondered why she never answered back.

When I was about 4 years old, my dad told me that there were elves in the stop lights the would push the button when it was time for the car to go or stop.I believed this until I was 8.
I thought if you did the gearshift or anything the wrong way on a car, it would blow up. When I was 13, my grandpa decided to have me drive and I refused saying I might blow up the car. He insisted and I was so terrified the whole time that I would only go about 5 miles an hour.

When I was about five, my little brother and I rode in my Granddad's car with him. He told us that he had a "magical car" and whenever we said, "Windows, open/close!" or "Doors, lock/unlock!" When we did, the doors and windows would do just that! MAGICAL! I believed this for years and years until my mother got a car with power windows and power locks. Even for a year or two after that, it took a little while for me to figure out that Granddad's car was NOT magic.

As all young kids do, I liked to watch TV. From movies and TV shows, I began to stereotype certain groups of people. When I was young, I could never understand why I saw blind people driving vehicles ALL THE TIME. I mean, blind people can't see the road, let alone, another vehicle coming at them. Right? My fascination with blind drivers stemmed from what I saw in the movies. From those shows, my stereotype of blind people were that they wore dark glasses. In fact those glasses could almost be mistaken for SUNGLASSES... hmmmm
I was told several things by my sadistic parents before a flight to Florida.
When I was 8 they told me that there were no toilets on the plane so I would have to hold it in for the 9 hours for the Trans-Atlantic flight.
They also told me that we would all have to pedal to get the plane off the ground.
And again when I was 11 they told me that after the pilot set the course he would sleep for the whole journey and hope everything went ok.
And to top it all off I believed them all three times.

When I was about four or five years old, I used to believe the squirls would control the traffic lights. I used to sit in the car, and when the light wouldn't change, I thought the squirl fell asleep!
