I believed there was a button hid on the ceiling of my car and at certain times on the highway my parents would puch it and it would make a rumbling noise. I late came to know it was the car driving over the ridges in the highway.

As a child I always thought that windshield squirters got their water from previous rainstorms.
Made sense to me!

As a child, I was firmly convinced that all the traffic lights in the entire country (Britain) were operated by separate, large teams of people based in subterranean offices.
Each set of traffic lights was fitted with a periscope, like the one on a submarine. The leader of the team would spend most of his time staring up through this at the street, whilst his minions brought him sandwiches, cakes and coffee.
When traffic approached, he would alert his second in command, who immediately bellowed into a desk microphone: "Action stations!"
The rest of the team members would then jump up from their desks and turn a giant handle that changed the colour of the traffic lights.
If the leader was annoyed with the local council for some reason, he would deliberately wind the officials up by creating a massive traffic jam and making everybody late for work that day. If he'd heard about a bank raid on the news, he'd use the jam to help the police capture the robbers.
I used to look forward to being a student when I was older, as I reckoned they helped change the traffic lights during the college holidays - and got paid tons of money for doing it. During quiet periods, you could read the paper, watch the telly, drink mugs of tea and eat biscuits.
The walls of the traffic light changing stations were padded with empty egg boxes, to muffle the sounds of the traffic passing overhead.

i used to belive that the cloud trails left by jets were tunnels to get on a plane for the people who missed their flight.
I once asked my father why there were curve signs along the roadside when you could already see the curve. My father replied "those are for blind people." Nearly a year later when learning disabled in school after the teacher was explaining what Brail was, I raised my had to ask, "why don't they just make words the same colors as those signs on the side of the road."
I live in an area with a lot of military bases. As kids, my friend once told me that the low roaring sounds we always heard (which I now know to be jet noise) was the sound of earthquakes.
i used to believe that to make a car go forward you pushed your foot down on the pedal and to reverse, you pulled it up with your foot.

When I was little we went on a vacation to Florida to visit grandma over srping break. We stayed there for about ten days. I asked my mom why we had to stay their for so long. Mom told me that when you went to Florida you had to stay their for at least nine days. After that, I thought that their was a rule in Florida that you had to stay for at least nine days if you were vacationing there, otherwise they wouldn';t let you go and if you tried to get on a plane, back you couldn't. In the summer, when we went on a 45 day vacation to Europe, my mom tried to use the same trick on me to get me not to ask questions.

i used to believe that the "fast lane" actually had some sort of tracks on it that made you go faster.
I used to be afraid to ride those flat-front school buses, because I thought that the bus driver was horrible because he'd crashed into a wall and smashed in the front.

My mom gave me this book on Guardian Angels when I was young, and it mentioned how all the angels lived up in Heaven with God, on clouds. So on my first plane ride, I was six, I begged for the window seat. I was sitting next to my Mom when we were in the air and I looked out the window and only saw clouds. I asked my Mom, "Where are the angels?" She said, "They're invisible." A very new concept to me, I figured that pilots and passengers saw them all the time while flying.

For a LONG time I believed my grandparents lived on plane in the sky. Everytime a plane would fly overhead (I live in NY- between LaGuardia airport & JFK), I would tell all my friends to wave to my grandparents in the air. The reason why I believe this for so long was my grandparents came to visit from Italy and when it was time to leave we accompanied them to the aitport. At the time you were able to walk them up to the gate, where you could literally see the plane they were boarding through a window. My parents would wait until the plane left, befire we would leave. As the plane would leave, my parents would say wave to grandma and grandpa. Hence the reason why for SO long I believed they loved on a plane! I did not quit understand where exactly they lived, since I had never visited!

Before I started school, I used to watch the school busses drive by our house. I saw both the regular busses and the short ones. I was so excited about starting school because I thought I would get to ride the cute short bus. I assumed that the short busses were for younger kids and the regular ones were for older kids. I was heart-broken when I found out the truth.
