My dad used to tell me that if I stuck my arm out the car window, it would get chopped off. I certainly kept my arm inside after that, with horrible visions of someone in a passing car holding a machete out their window for the sole purpose of cutting off people's arms.

until i was about 9, i was very confused about the sign "blind driveway". i figured either a blind person lived there or somehow the driveway had gone blind.

i also couldn't come to understand "deaf children" signs. even if deaf children read it they wouldnt know what to do. there were no instructions or anything!

When my mopm said it was good because she had her own lane on the parkway i thought it meant there were like 100000 lanes so every car could have its own.

Once my mother and I took my then two year old niece to the store. When we were walking back to our van, she started pointing and exclaiming, "I want that one!" We had no idea what she was talking about until we figured out that she was pointing at a van that was kind of like ours, only a pretty teal color instead of our old tan van. She thought we could take the car we wanted after we left the store.

i used to think two worker-men worked inside each traffic light, kind of like Mario and Luigi. they both sat inside the traffic lights, and used a hammer to tap a button that activated each colored light

I used to believe that the blinkers knew where you were going so you never turned them on. I also thought for some reason that the windsheild wipers were INSIDE the car, and whenever it was raining i would sit in the very back seat far away from the wipers because i thought that they would chop my hands off if they got too close.

When I was young I used to believe that horsepower meant that there were horses in the tires and the number was the amount of horses, so i would never walk behind the car because i was scared it would kick me! lol

I used to think that traffic lights were the strings of lights some shops have up at Christmas. I was realy unhappy when I found out the truth because I felt they needed a wider variety of colours!

I also used to think that traffic jams were caused by jars of jam that were left in the road and stopped the cars moving. It made sense at the time!

Carsick - meant that the car was sick and would throw up

One set of keys could operate every car in the world, and if you lost your keys, you could use someone elses.

When playing with Lego/Matchbox cars, opening all doors made the cars have wings and fly

The glove compartment has gloves in it (seriously, has anyone ever kept gloves in there?)

When I was 5 or 6, my brother was 10 or 11 and loved to say "i farted!" When ever he let one rip. Well for some reason, I thought that there were little boys in the stoplights that farted. Everytime it turned a color, a different boy would fart and his butt would turn that color. To me, the horns honking were the fart sounds.

When I was little, I believed (for some unfathomable reason) that every person who drove a car or a truck or any kind of vehicle, was in some kind of "race" to get to some finish line. I believed that this "race" went on in every country. I also believed that you weren't supposed to talk to it to anyone, especially kids. I thought that when I grew up and got my own car, my dad would have a talk with me about it and tell me about this race and how I was supposed to win it or something... yeah I was a weird kid.

When I was young my dad had me believe that cat's eye's in the middle of the road were small lights that he could turn on & off using a switch in the car. He would flick the switch and hey presto the lights in the road turned off, another flick and they were back on :)

When I was REALLY young (I can't even remember how old I was). I used to believe that whenever you get into a car. The car wasn't moving, but the whole world around you was actually rearranging around your vehicle.

However, I never actually wondered how other vehicles moved around...

When i was young I didnt ubderstand the concept of speed. When we were in the car I thought the car in front of us had to be going faster than us because it was infront. And the car in front of that must be going even faster. I used to think that the cars further on must be going so fast that they would end up becoming invisible!

I use to believe that sky scrapers were those jets that left the "scrape marks " across the sky. Living near Manhatten, my folks would say to me and my brothers "look at the sky scrapers" and I'd look to the skys and get so fustrated when I couldn't find any...especially when my brothers would anounce that they were "RIGHT THERE, WHAT ARE YOU BLIND?"

When I was little, I used to think that there were little trolls sitting in the traffic lights, and they would shine their little colored flashlights when it was time for the lights to change.

I used to believe that there was people underground that had three buttons: One red, 1 amber and 1 green. And they pressed each one of the buttons to operate the change of the lights!! They knew when to change because the looked out of the 'Cats Eyes' (the little lights in the middle of the road at night in some places!)

Once when I was young my Dad came home one day and a hubcap was off his tire. The car looked funny and I asked him why it looked different. He told me that an Indian had shot the hubcap off with an arrow. I believed this for a quite some time.
