I always thought that when you go on an airplane to a different contry that there were hundreds of trap doors in the sky leading you to the contry that you wanted to go to.

I used to believe that it was against the law to have your window down while on the motorway, because everytime we would go out in the car, just as we were getting on the motorway my dad would shout "shut the window!". I believed it until I was 17, and only now have found out that it was due to the car going faster when there was no wind coming in - thanks dad!

When I was younger, my dad was a truck driver. He liked to joke with me a lot, and unfortunately, I didn't always know when he was joking. One day while on a road trip I saw a "Runaway Lane" for trucks. I asked my dad what it was and, being mean, he told me that Runaway Lanes were for truck drivers whose truck was going to explode. They could go up the Runaway Lane, jump out, land on cushions, and their truck would roll back down the lane and kill whomever was unfortunate enough to be driving behind him on the road. But hey, at least truck drivers like him would go home safely each night. I believed this for YEARS- much longer than I should have. I think I was 15 before I realized that wasn't true!

I used to believe when we got onto the bus that the bus driver was personally giving us a lift to where we wanted to go. I remember asking my mum why all the other people aren't cross that the bus is dropping us off first when they where already on!

When I was 4 0r 5 my whole family was in the car driving somewhere on a trip. My father was drinking coffee, and I said to him "Dad, youre not allowed to drink and drive!!".
I was so upset he was breaking the law, and he even though he told me that its ok to drink coffee and drive and that they mean another kind of drink, I didnt believe him.

I had an Aunt and Uncle that were missionaries. We used to go to the airport a lot when I was younger to either see them fly into the States or back to Africa. I just though Africa was in the clouds and airplanes took them there.

Until a few years ago, I thought that when you parked where the sign said 'parking 1hr maximum, no return within 2hrs', that you were not allowed to go back to your car for 2hrs. I always felt I was breaking the law by complying with the 1hr parking time limit.

I used to believe that the handicapped signs in parking lots was someone on a toilet.

When I was a kid I thought that when a traffic light gave the signal "don't walk" it meant you ran!! How dum is that?

I used to believe…

When I was little, I was terrified to ride the school bus. I cried hard whenever someone would try and make me. Why? Because (for some odd reason) I believed that once the door shut behind me, everyone on the bus (kids included) would turn into monsters and turn me into one too. This lasted until first grade. I told my sister and she laughed for about ten minutes.

I used to believe…

As a child my parents had me convinced that the eject button on the car radio would eject me from the back seat. Thanks to this belief anytime I was being misbehaved in the car all they had to do was hold their finger over the button and I would start begging them not to push it.

I used to believe that for the car to go in reverse, my dad just had to put his right arm on the passenger seat and look over his right shoulder. The car took its cue from my dad and knew to go backwards!

When I was younger a friend of my mother told me that her car wouldn't start until all the seatbelts were fastened. I believed this for a good few years, and was mocked mercilessly when I was found out.
