I used to believe…

Before I was big enough to see over the dash of the car, I used to believe that all stop signs were held up by road workers. It was okay to proceed when the worker ran away with the sign and hid in a bush. I thank my older sister for that belief.

When I was about 7 or 8 I used to think that there were little people under the road at the traffic lights. They would choose whose turn it was to go and stop by pressing a switch, kind of like a light switch.

when i was younger i used to believe that there were little men squished into traffic lights and they used to flick the lights on and off after they felt it was time to switch

When I Was About 7, My Friend Told Me That While She Was On An Airplane, She Waited Until They Were High Up Into The Clouds And That's When She Opened Up One Of Side Windows And Pulled In A Piece Of Cloud. I Sort Of Believed Her Because She Described It The Exact Way I Imagined It Would Feel; Like Wet Cotton.

When I was younger I would always look at what direction we were going in the car because we had the built-in compass thing. When it read SW or NW or SE or NE I would tell my mom that she was driving crooked.

I used to believe…

One time when I went downtown with my mom, I saw the wires above the street that the streetcars hooked on to.. When I asked my mom what it was, she said that streetcars went on it, so for years I thought that streetcars went above the road on top of the wires instead of just being attached.. and I would always watch for one, but i never knew why they were never there!! I was shocked when I found out that street cars stayed on the ground..

I used to believe…

When I was about seven, I thought that cars should be equipped with very long, motorized periscopes. After going through a green light, the car would deploy the periscope and it would continuously extend behind the car, watching the light until it turned red. I guess my idea was that the car would stop for the red light, no matter how far it had traveled down the road. I'm not sure what that says about my seven-year-old desire to please the establishment.

I used to believe…

While driving down the road with my father, I pointed to the taillights of the car in front of us and asked, "Where do red lights come from?" He answered, "From other lights." Clearly he meant that the bulb wasn't red, but in fact a clear bulb, so what I was seeing as a red light was actually a clear bulb. But the way I interpreted it, I thought lights on cars got their energy from other lights, which explained the purpose of street lamps. They were the energy source that powered the car lights. Of course, I began to fear driving down any road that didn't have street lamps. I was grateful for the porch lights that kept powered up.

i used to think the little triangle that was missed by the windshield wipers was so that the person driving could tell what the weather was outside...it NEVER occured to me that you could see through the rest of the window. 0=D

We used to have a stick shift car when i was little, and i always thought that when my mom changed gears she was telling the car directions on how to get where we were going. Whenever she changed gears, she would change her mind because of traffic, or just because she changed her mind. my mom was a very indecisive person when i was little. 0=D

My sister and I used to think that when you flushed the toilet on a plane a trapdoor would open and the contents of the toilet would be sucked out (because of the loud noise) and dropped from the plane. So everytime a plane flew overhead we'd run into the house or under a tree. Eventually a friend told us that that was not true. Instead we were told that everything is stored in the plane, and frozen into a cube of waste, and that sometimes this cube is accidently dropped from the plane, so we still ran from planes. I'm still not sure whether to believe that or not.

I used to believe…

When I was little my parents and I would vacation to Florida every spring. Funny thing is that we took a plane every time. I believed that a plane was the only way to get there, because I thought Florida was in the sky!

I used to believe that whenever the driver of the car put on his blinkers to turn that the car predicted which way you were going to turn or would tell you which way to turn. For a long time I believed that...

I used to believe that the toilets on airplanes emptied out in the sky and would fall into cities, so I would write notes on a napkin with my name on it and flush it thinking I would get a pen pal down below. Then I would be ask my mom if I got any mail when we got home. Don't ask....

When I was really tiny, my parents told me that we were going on holiday in a plane and I was really excited. Getting on the shuttle bus to carry us to the plane, I started crying.

"But Mummy, you said we were going in an aeroplane!"
