I remember the day when my friend Jason told our 4th grade teacher that his mom had just "bought a new vulva." (he meant to say volvo....)

I used to believe that miniature men worked in the stoplights and were responsible for changing the colors. I imagined that when their shift was over, they would come down an elevator inside the poles at the intersections.

When I was little ( 4-5) I believed that when you drove down a road the cars were connected by an invisible string. Then when the car infront or behind you turned the string was broken and it attached to the next car in line.

When I was little, I was scared to go under traffic lights. I always thought the colors changed by insects changing them from a nearby bush or tree. I was always afraid that the bugs would change the green light to red while we were going under it to kill us, since we always step on them if we feel in danger. It was just about 2 years ago, when I was 10, I found out how they really changed- technology!!

As an important safety tip, mom used to tell me to have my keys ready in my hand when entering a parking garage (kinda strange advice for a 5 year old, but you never know).
For the longest time I thought women did this because the keys could be used as a weapon to gauge an attacker's eyes out.

My grandmother lived in another state and when she came to visit we would pick her up and drop her off at the airport. I believed she lived on the air plane and waved at every plane that flew over.

When I was about 4 I went on my first plane ride to Florida. I fell asleep on the way and so when I woke up my mom told me that it was a beautiful view that I missed...I was sooo mad cuz I thought that she had seen the moon, and the planets, and the sun up close. I stayed awake the next time and to my dismay I only saw trees, houses, and bodies of water. I was bummed...I always wanted to see the moon up close!!!

When I was young, my mother told me you had to cross the street "only on the white lines," meaning the crosswalk. But I thought this meant you could only walk on the white part of the crosswalk, so I would have to jump from one line to the next. I thought if you stepped on the black part, the cars wouldn't stop for you anymore and you would get run over! I think I've got it figured out now...

When a family that my parents know was moving to a new city, they went on an airplane. The parents explained to their son what an airplane was, how it flew through the air. Then during the flight, the kid fell asleep, so his parents carried him off the plane and to their new home. A few weeks passed by, they settled into their house, he went to a new school and made friends, then eventually he asked his parents when they were going to get off the plane! He didn't know they had gotten off and thought all this was happening up in the air!

When a friend was going on an airplane for the first time when he was young, he looked out the window, saw all the buildings and cars getting smaller and smaller, turned to his mother, and proclaimed "This is a big hill!"
