I used to clench my teeth as we passed driveways, intersections, etc because I thought doing so would help us safely arrive at our destination.

I used to think there were little men inside the traffic lights who would watch to see if cars were coming or not and change from green, yellow to red accordingly.

I used to believe that all cars had the year of manufacture on them somewhere that was visible to anyone outside the car. I'd be with someone (always a guy) who would say something like.... "check out the '73 mustang". I thought the only way they could know what year the car was made was that it was "printed" somewhere on the back end of the car!

After many school presentations about "Don't let your parents drink and drive," my mother was driving me to her friends house on some errand, and we had a cup of orange juice.

She got thirsty and picked it up. Now they didn't specify the word "Alcohol" in the presentation and so I freaked out and thought we were going to get in trouble!

Mom thought it was "funny."

I remember being in our behind an old truck going slowly up a steep hill. My dad said that it was going too slowly and that he should change gear. For some years I thought that you had to take a chnage of clothes with you when driving trucks!

I used to believe those handles in cars above the window were called Jesus Handles, because my mom always grabbed hers and yelled "Jesus!" whenever someone else drove badly.

I used to think inside traffic lights there were 3 littlr people fighting over which color the light will be. I thought the yellow guy was the weakest since it almost never turns yellow

I used to think if u left a car started in park, that it would drive away on its own and kill people..I would scream at my mom if she left the ignition on and I'd cry.

When I was little, I was sitting in the car with my mom after we had just gone to McDonald's or some other fast food place. She was driving and picked up the soda and was about to take a sip. "NOOOO!!!!" I cried, afraid my mom would die. "Don't drink and drive!"
She then explained to me that you aren't supposed to drink alcohol and drive. I felt really dumb.

When I was about 8, I was visiting the beach in New Jersey. I was walking from the hotel with a group of about 10 neighbors. I saw a stoplight and I wondered how in the world they knew how to change colors when you pressed the little button to cross the street. I asked my friend Mackenzie and she replied "Sakura, you mean you don't know? Inside those little poles that hold up the stoplights, there are tiny midgets who work them." We thought we were so smart knowing that the streetlights were run by midgets.

When I was younger, I used to believe that the disabled logo in a carpark space was of a man going to the toilet so if you were desperate for the loo, you could park your car there and get to the toilet quicker!!

When I was younger, I used to believe that at the start of every car trip, you told the car where you wanted to go, and as you traveled, the car's directionals would point you in the right direction so you would never get lost.

when i was little i always thought that their were little tiny elf people, who ran the lights on the streets( green, red) and when i would see a hole in the side walk or something i would look down the hole to see if i could see the elfs.

when i was real little i believed that if you were to drink and drive with any beverage, you can get pulled over by the cops and get arrested. I would always tell my mom or dad not to drink their coffee while driving just so that they wouldn't get in trouble.

As a kid I was often taken to the train station to watch the trains come and go. I observed how the switchmen operated the switches to send trains down one track or another. In this case, they pulled up a lever to change a switch, and the lever seemed to block the "wrong" track, that is the one the train wasn't supposed to go proceed on. I got the idea that that was how the switches worked, blocking the wrong track, so if a train started down the wrong track, it would hit the lever, bounce back, repeatedly if necessary, until it happened to go down the right track, the one not blocked by any lever.

As a child, whenever I saw under the hood of a car, the radiator fan seemed to be the only obvious thing that was turned by the engine. So I thought for some time that the fan was a propellor that propelled the car, much like an airplane propellor propels the plane.

The first time I was taken to an airport as a child, I expected to see airplanes flap their wings on takeoff, like birds. I was surprised to see that airplanes could become airborne without ever flapping their wings.
