When I was younger I always used to believe that an L-plate on a car meant that they had been on the back of one of those big lorries that transports new cars. I was always really jealous and thought they were just trying to show off, and even asked my dad how we would go about getting ourselves one! hehe!

I used to beleive that traffic lights chaged because of a little man inside it, looking for cars, and changing the lights according to the traffic.
I used to believe that the car blinker told the car which way it was going to go, I never realized the driver had anything to do with it. I used to sit there, mocking it in my mind, I was ready for the day that blinker would be wrong.. it never came, sadly.
I used to think that if you drank anything while in the car, you were drinking and driving. I flipped out once when my parents got us some Cokes at a drive through, and insisted on drinking it outside the car.

When I was little, I used to believe there were little people who lived inside the traffic lights. That they decided when to change the color. And when they did, they would hold up a card with the color on it. Then people driving in their cars would drive until the little people changed the colors. I was disappointed when I found out the truth.
I used to believe that there was a man sitting under the traffic lights in his own little botth controlling all the stop lights and that the man holes were how you got down into the booth so i would always talk into them.
I used to think that you had to stop at a stop sign and count to five, and then you could keep going. it never occured to me that you had to look for other cars...but then, i was very young.
I used to get very distraught at the thought of all the underground tunnels there must be for thousands of cats, that poked their head up for all those catseyes that appear in the middle of the road

On some midwest highways they use white signs with a bold black plus sign to indicate an upcoming intersection. My dad used to tell us this meant the road was positively charged. I could never find any negatively charged roads.
I used to believe the freeway had hours it was open and closed, just like stores did. Whenever we were on the freeway I would wonder who was the first person to get on the freeway that morning.

My father told me that if you heard a song playing on the car radio, and you wanted to hear it again, all you had to do was to back up the car to the start of the song and proceed forward again.

For as long as I can remember, my parents have referred to the handle above your car door (on the inside) as the "Chickenhandle". I have believed that it was the proper term for this particular device for years upon years. I remember, at one point in time (about two or three years ago), asking my Dad if it was really called the Chickenhandle, to which he of course answered, "yes".
Let's make a long story short: I am fourteen now, and found out about five days ago that my parents really don't have any idea what the Chickenhandle is really called.

When I was little I used to believe that stop lights were operated by tiny little men. These tiny little people each had a flashlight that they would shine against the colored glass in order to change the signals.

This one in not mine - it belongs to the boy I used to babysit: We were riding one hot day and I told him we needed to turn off the air conditioning because I was almost out of gas. He later explained to his father that the air conditioner of a car ran off a separate gasoline engine and you had to put gas in it, too.

I used to think that everytime i flew on a plane i would see God's head poking out of the clouds. I was disappointed when there was no sight of him!

When I read the Pedestrian X-ing signs I didn't understand the X was for cross so I tried to figure out why only pedestrians could ex and why ex-ing was only done on crosswalks.
I never realised that the driver operated the cars indicators. I just thought cars were really smart and automatically knew where you were going and by watching the indicators you'd know how to get there.
