A childhood belief about creepy crawlies

Having read Charlotte's Webb as a kid, I became petrified whenever my parents or brothers killed a spider that had been in my room. I would beg them not to kill them, but just to catch them in a jar and pop them out the window instead. This was because I firmly believed that as spiders have so many hundreds of babies, if one of them were killed in my room, all of their hundreds of brothers and sisters might come and 'get me' and I'd wake up in the middle of the night covered in the things!

I'm 29 now and still can't kill a spider - only chuck them out the house safely!
