A childhood belief about eating

As a child, somehow I got into my brain that if I swallowed the food whole, that I would get all the nutrients I need, because chewing took all the nutrients out.
So for about a month I swallowed beans whole and kernels of corn and such, until my mother told me it was all bloody stupid and I dropped it.
