I distinctly remember being told that the red traffic lights were red because they were flames, and that to turn the light green we had to blow out the fire. And to think of all the time I spent huffing and puffing at the windshield! Never once occurred to me to ask "How will the air I blow get through the windshield to put out the light?"
A childhood belief about traffic lights

others believed things like this
- i believed that if you farted too much in a room and you were to light a flame your house would blow up— the nuclear fart

- I used to believe that the yellow light in traffic-lights meant Go Faster!— M. L. E.
- My dad could change a traffic light from red to green using our garage door opener.Anon
