I believed my mom controlled the speed of our car by how much she moved the steering wheel. Not much movement = Fast. Lots of movement = Slow. I was terribly disappointed when I shared this finding with her and she told me about the gas pedal.
A childhood belief about cars

others believed things like this
- I used to believe that God was like a puppeteer, controlling every single movement we made. — Carrie C. in PA
- When I was young I used to believe that Euthanasia was a youth movement in Asia- how naive is that!!!— Ruth
- I used to think that drivers accelerated by turning the steering wheel.Anon
- Because of cartoons, I thought that to drive you'd just turn the steering wheel back and forth constantly. — Mitsuki
- I once thought that there were little mice under the wheel on Wheel of Fortune making the wheel move— Kara
- Pressing on the gas pedal means that your car can do anything...including going up a vertical wall.Anon
