I used to think that if you misbehaved on a train, the driver would open the doors, tilt the train sideways and make you fall down the gap.

I used to think all train lines in London were connected to ones all over England, so if you went from Baker Street to Yorkshire, for instance, then you'd be on the same train the whole time, before realising that they all terminated at different stations in
London!

I used to think that when you were waiting for a train, the driver would announce that the train was coming on a megaphone when approaching the station, and you would hear their voice from all the way down the track.

I used to think underground trains actually descended into the tunnel, like a rollercoaster.

This train station that me and my mother used often when I was a young child had a small shelter, this shelter had a barred door for security, however, when I was little, I thought the train station had a jail cell for people who were had at the station.

I wanted to include a link to a picture of the 'jail cell', however, links are not allowed to prevent advertising.

Until I was 11 I used to think that travelling on the train under the English Channel would be like in an aquarium where you would be able to see fish swimming casually around you.

Firemen start fires. I saw a program about steam trains and the person who started and stoked the fire on the engine was called a fireman.

When I was younger, ok, not that young, when I was a Teenager, I went on the Eurostar from London to Paris and was disappointed to find that most of the journey took place in a dark tunnel. I was expecting portholes in the tunnel so you could see the water and the fish.....

I thought that the one railroad used by all the trains of the organization was entirely two tracks, and the trains are lined up and continuously go in a circle, backing up at the turning point to get on to the other track.

In my area, passenger trains run in the day time, and freight trains run at night, so I thought there were only passenger trains, never seeing the freight trains and all. I have always heard the horns on the freight trains and night, and I thought they were just the passenger trains for many years, until I eventually discovered that they sound completely different than the horns on the passenger trains during the day. I started going crazy wondering what those horns really were, and I thought that maybe they weren't even trains. Luckily, I am now a teen, and I stay up later than I used to. I sometimes go outside at night and see the freight trains go by, realizing that they were the sources all along.

At the end of the underground line the train would disappear, and a new train would be made out of thin air to follow on the opposite direction.

I used to believe that the trains in Thomas the Tank Engine were real, but rare and special, and that other trains were "regular" or "ordinary" trains that didn't have a face.

I used to think that in order for a train to move that an airplane would have to fly over the train first!

I used to believe that when you flushed the toilet on a train, everything was just dumped onto the track. I was always careful not to use the bathroom while the train was stopped at a station.

When I was a kid I always used to wonder how a train turned to go in the opposite direction. I always believed that there was some huge space where the train could turn around

When I was learning about the underground railroad in elementary school, I always imagined that it was really underground. I couldn't wait to, someday, go walk in the underground railroad.
