When I was about four, I was riding in the car with my mother. She had a big cup of soda-pop from some fast food resteraunt, and she picked it up and took a sip at the stoplight. I was horrified, and made that clear. After all, I was pretty much certain that there was something very wrong with "drinking and driving."

She, of course, explained what that phrase actually meant.

I used to watch commercials that warned people against "drinking and driving", and saying drinking and driving can cause accidents. I didn't know they only referred to drinking alcohol. I figured the hazard must come from the possibility of spilling your glass of kool-aid or whatever on the dashboard, bending over to wipe it up, and then crashing your car because you weren't watching the road!

When I saw commercials saying "Don't drink and drive" i thought that meant you weren't allowed to drink anything while you were driving. So when my dad was drinking a pop I told him that you weren't supposed to drink and drive.

I used to believe that no drinking and driving meant that you couldn't drink anything while you were in your car. I would always be afraid that my mother would get arrested and I would become an orphan.

I was taught in school one day that drinking and driving was bad , but they never specified alcohol , so when my mom picked me up from school that day I immediatley told her to stop drinking the soda she had in her hand before she drove us home, or she would get pulled over by the police and go to jail.

Whenever I used to hear people talking about drink driving I used to assume it was just drinking any drink, ie. coke while you were actually at the wheel.

I have a friend, John, who was driving with his mother the other day. All of a sudden she pulled over and started drinking her bottle of Coke she purchased earlier. When he enquired as to what she was doing she said, "don't you know, it's illegal to drink and drive". (keep in mind she was serious) Needless to say, John is still laughing about this!!!

When I was youunger about 7 years old, I visited a local Tim Hortin's with my mother where she preceded to go in and get a coffee. When she came back and started the car up, i looked at her and said in astonishment and disgust, "mom you aren't going to drink and drive are you?." She got a pretty good laugh out of that one.

Some time about 1980 I saw a public information film advising people not to drink and drive. This made perfect (and obvious) sense to my three-year-old brain, as your coffee might distract you from the road.

top belief!

I remember quite vividly a time when I was about five years old. After visiting a McDonald's, my dad was driving my Mom and I to my Grandmother's. I was happily eating my Happy Meal when suddenly I realised that the family was in grave danger. Hysterically crying, I told my dad he would kill us all because he was "drinking and driving" just like the tv commercials warn you not to.
My mother got a huge kick out of trying to explain the relative safety of the effect of strawberry milkshakes on one's motoring skills.

I used to think it was against the law to drink soft drinks while driving because of all the signs I saw that said "Don't Drink and Drive..."

When I was little and they would run the "dont drink and drive" adds i used to think that was drink anything. So my mom would have a cup of coffee everyday in the car and one day i asked "Mom are you going to go to jail?" and she said "No, why would i go to jail?" and I responded "because youre not supposed to drink and drive."

I used to believe that the saying, "don't drink and drive" meant all drinks. So one day when my mother started up the engine with a can of diet coke in the cupholder, I looked at her very sincerely and said, "Mommy, you know you shouldn't drink and drive." SHe cracked up.
