My dad used to smoke so obviously I thought it was a thing that only dad's did cos mum's dad and dad's dad did too. When i first saw my brother smoking I asked him if he was going to be a dad and was practising. My brothar looked at me wide-eyed, him and his girlfriend were about to have their first child! You can imagine how span out he was! I have recently learnt from experience you don't have to be a dad, you can be a daughter too!

Me and my sister used to think that only men could smoke and one day we were at the grocery store and we were SO appalled when we saw a lady smoking.

Until my Junior year of High School I thought a roach was bug - six legs, never dies kinda bug. I could never understand why anyone ever smoked one or was excited to find one in their house.

I used to believe that when you could smoke on a cigarette even if the smoke didn't come out. only experienced smokers knew how to make the smoke come out, and the people who let the cigarette hang out of their mouth weren't experienced enough. I never knew why they put fire to it, and i never made the connection that that was where the smoke came from. I learned that when I was about seven

When I was a kid about 7 or 8 I noticed an odd odor and saw that my mom and my aunt were smoking.."a different" kind of cigarettes. My mom told me that they were "cigarettes without filters". Not knowing at the time that they were actually smoking marijuana, the next time I was at the store with her and she was buying some Parliament 100's, I asked if she could get the "cigarettes without filters" since they smelled really good.

I was absolutely convinced that the clouds were made from cigarette and cigar smoke and that the reason some people wanted the smokers to quit was so the sun would shine every day. I used to get so mad at my parents (and everyone else) when they would smoke outside and was 14 before I learned the truth. I still hate smokers, though!!

When I graduated from preschool, we had to stand up at a podem, say our names and tell somthing about our family. Well i stood up there and declared, "My name is Heather and my mom is divorced and she smokes pot!" took a bow and left the stage. Well everyone was shocked. My mom never smoked pot, only ciggerets. I saw a anti- drug comercial where they showed a joint on tv, and i assumed thats what my mom smoked. My grandmother was there and all the parents of the school children. The day care workers told my mom that she shouldnt smoke pot in front of me. hahahhahah

When I was younger I beleived that when you grew up, you smoked (probably because all of the adult around me did). I used to worry that I wouldn't know how to do it or that I wouldn't know how to hold a cigarette!

When I first saw my Grandmother smoking I thought that in some way she was a dragon because she was exhaling smoke. When she told me what smoking was (and that I shouldn't do it), I still failed to grasp the idea that the smoke came from the cigarette she was holding. I spent the next 6 to 8 months wanting to be a smoker because i thought dragons were cool. Hey, what 3 year old with a wild imagination wouldn't want to be a dragon?

When I was younger I caught my mom and dad making their own "cigarettes" and for years I believed them. Until I was old enough to be a party where weed was present. Once a smelled the weed I remembered that it smelled like my mom and dad's homemade "cigarettes". I then realized I had caught my mom and dad smoking pot!

My Dad is a chain smoker and he used to do a lot of fishing, using maggots as bait. I used to think that his yellow smokers fingers were from picking up the maggots and putting them on the hook!

My Dad has always been a chain smoker, and always referred to cigarettes as 'fags' as do a lot of people. When Mum would go to the shop she would ask Dad if he wanted any fags, and he always did - I thought fags were faggots, and thought that my Dad ate rather a lot of them. Yuck.

When i was alot younger, i didnt know which end of the cig to smoke, the filter or "cork" as i used to call it or the other end, as ide only seen adverts for cigs and never any one smoking one, or i had and not noticed i dunno. Anyway i do smoke now, have done for some time, and accidently re-discoverd which end to smoke. It was dark, i was drunk, ide brought some Davidoff cigs, that have a white filter, when i buy a 20 deck i always turn one upside down to smoke last the "lucky", a supperstition of mine that its the one that wont bugger up my lungs. any way "lucky" me accidently plucked my "lucky" ciggerette and continued to smoke the filter. I took one drag of the accryd fibre glass and chocked like ide never chocked before. Ive continued to do this twice afterwards, but with normal brown filters, im a stupid fool.

When I was a kid, I used to believe that smoking "hurt" - that it burned your lips and lungs because you were breathing in really really hot air. This was after the first time I saw someone smoking - my eyes went really wide because I saw the person inhale, and saw the end of the cigarette burn bright red. I pointed and asked "Doesn't that hurt?" before being shushed by my mom.

My mom used to smoke, and I'd see her ash into the ash tray. One day I got curious and asked her if there was a button on the cigarette that makes the ash fall off. She told me yes but you can't see it. I believed this till about age 10!
