We lived out in the country where there were a lot of ticks. Whenever I found one crawling on me or stuck to me I would take it off and save it in a tiny bottle of perfume. I thought collecting them in this way and keeping the dead ticks in captivity was somehow getting them back for biting me.

I used to honestly believe that flies were tiny monsters. Unfortunately, my mother never deterred me from that belief, and to this day I still harbor a small fear (and great hatered) of flies.

I used to be terrified of spiders when I was younger. My brother once told me they crawl into my ears at night and lay eggs in my brain. I sleep with a blanket around my head ever since then.

As a young girl, I used to believe that, if I fell to the sidewalk on a rainy day on my way to school, worms would crawl into my nose and ears. I was terrified.

What's really weird is that I used to dig for worms at my grandfather's cottage in the summer and fish on the dock.

Mu friends and I used to believe that if an ant crawled in your ear it would get under your skin and travel around your body and drive you crazy. We were absolutely sure this was true and tried to protect our ears if we slept outside during the summer.

When I was really little, I used to think that there were flies covering my kitchen floor. I could see them, but they were never really there. I would walk around on the knuckles of my feet with my toes curled under my feet. It hurt a lot, but I thought the flies would hurt me if I walked regularly.

I used to believe that if I caught a bunch of different kinds of butterflies in the same jar and kept them alive long enough, that they would mate and have baby butterflies that were totally new and beautiful and I would be a famous scientist.

I used to think that lizards had houses just like people's houses, only smaller. For some reason, I thought at least some of those houses were right under the sidewalk in my front yard.

When I was a little gril I used to believe that spiders were by myside. I have always been a woman very afraid of insects especially of spiders and this fear was born since I was a very small girl since everywhere I went I always found myself with a spider, no matter what I did, I could never I got rid of them, when I went to sleep, when I went to eat, even when I went to take a shower, I do not know if they were really there or if it was just my belief that I was there.

My brother told his two little girls that the racing snails in the Guinness adverts were really valuable, and that if they ever found any racing snails in the garden they should put them in their pockets and bring them to him so that he could make lots of money. I dread to think of the state of their coat pockets...

When I was a little girl, my cousins and I would tease one of our younger cousins who believed that worms were snakes.
Everytime we would get a good rain night crawlers would scatter all over the ground and pavement. We would
then tell him "look out there's a snake" "Hey there's another one" He was terrified!!

When I was about 5, I recall being scared by one of those huge wolf spiders luking in the bathtub when I went to go do 'the deed'. I screamed and my grandmother came in asking me what was wrong..I told her my fear and she looks at me with the most serious face and puts a finger up to her lips..and goes shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh your scare my pet herman..hes very sensitive..Damnded if I didnt believe that and have never feared them since. Of course herman wasnt her pet, but my grandmother sure handled my phobia with unique aplomb. :)

When I was about 4 I was brushing my hair in the mirror and my sister jokingly said there was a bug in it. But sure enough when I looked up I saw a nat flying around the top of my head. I started bawling and ran to my mother who told me that the nat was flying around my head because it liked pretty girls. I believed her and stopped crying. How dumb of me!

When my friend was little she had a pet slug but she didn't know what to feed it so she went to her brothers for help. Upon asking what they ate they told her "slugs eat salt." She cried and cried when she found out slugs did not like salt!
