My family and I live part-time in England and part-time in Italy, and when I first went to school in England one boy convinced me that my family must be gangsters. I assumed my grandfather must be the godfather, and whenever we went back to Italy I would search the house for guns.

When I was young, I was convinced that my nightlight turned itself off after I fell asleep. I would try to stay up as long as I could (usually only about 9 o'clock) but it never turned off. It wasn't until I was about seven years old that my parents finally told me they would come into my room when I was asleep to turn it off.

When I was little, my dad told me that I used to have a brother, but he got sucked up by a vacuum cleaner! I was scared of vacuum cleaners for years...

When we'd leave for our family vacation, the song "Up Up and Away" would coincidentally always play on the radio. My parents made me believe it was a sign we were going to have a good trip. I guess I never noticed the 8 track player.

My dad used to tell me he had blue blood like the queen. As proof he would point to the bright blue varicose vein on his arm and say, "See." For years I not only thought my dad's blood was actually blue but I believed I was somehow related to the royal family.

I used to ask my dad why he could tell me to do things, and he always told me it was because he is older than me, to which I responded "Just you wait until I'm older than you!"

When I was like 5 or 6, I could not understand why my little brother (who is four years younger) could have his birthday before I did - his birthday is in May, mine is in June. So I was convinced that he was actually older than me and my parents had just hidden him so I could be an only child for at least some time in my life.

When I was about two years old, my great-grandpa, who had lost a thumb, told me that my great-grandma bit it off. I wouldn't go near her for two years and she hated my great-grandpa for telling me that!

I thought that your parents designated random people to hold the titles of your grandparents, aunts and uncles and mine just so happened to choose their parents, brothers and sisters.

When I was about five, my parents told me that there was such thing as a trumpet lilly. They told me that this lilly, at 7 o'clock it would play the march of the valkyries (conveniently being my dads ring tone). So I asked them to put one in my room. Sure enough at 7 o'clock the march of the valkyries started playing. I woke up very excited thinking 100% that it was the lilly, my dad had just hidden his phone under my mattress and my mum called it at precisely 7 o'clock. I believed this until I was 11
