I used to think a con artist was someone who painted pictures in prison.
I used to believe that if you took the tags off of pillows, mattresses, etc. that you would go to jail!! Ha, ha, ha. The funny thing is, I still do...and I'm 48. My dad was a cop...do ya think that may have been part of it?
I used to believe that being wasted meant feeling really tired.
When I was little I used to think the "Speed Limit" was called the "Speed Lemon" and if you drove too fast you would get pulled over and thrown in jail by a big glowing lemon shaped spaceship full of "police"- I also thought policemen were men with big lemon heads.. :p - I had an active imagination!
When I was young, I used to see "90 days, same as cash" on retail windows in my neighborhood. I thought that meant that if you had a choice of going to jail for 90 days, or paying cash for your purchase.
When I first became familiar as a child with the phrase "calling the law", which actually meant calling the police. I got the idea that "the law" referred to one particular government official.
When I was younger I would always put my seat belt on way before my mom would start the car. I thought the reason police officers had laptops in their cars was because they had a special software that could track cars with kids who didn't have their seatbelts on!

I used to think that serial killers chopped their victims up into little pieces and eat them with their cereal
I used to think that you were supposed to wear your seatbelt so that if a policeman pulled over the car and tried to take you out, he wouldn't be able to because you'd be strapped in.
I used to believe that police men were evil people that loved to pull people over and send them to jail just for the heck of it. I think i got the idea from watching "cops" and I thought the theme song "bad boys" was referring to the fact that policemen are criminals. One time I was in the car and my mom got pulled over for speeding, I thought the cop was going to take us all to jail or shoot us with his gun!
My parents used to say that the police were "giving someone directions" when they had a car pulled over on the side of the road. I wondered how the police knew that person needed directions until i was around 15 when I finally figured out that they were just kidding.
I was very confused by the idea of money laundering. When I was little, my mother always told me to empty my pockets of spare change before putting my dirty clothes in the laundry. I watched a lot of crime movies with my father as a child, and I thought I had to take the coins out to not commit money laundering, which was a serious crime. I later learned as an adult that money laundering had nothing to do with the actual wash, and my mom only wanted to avoid the coins rusting the washer, not saving me from federal prosecution.
When I was a kid I thought rape just meant someone tearing the clothes off of a woman's body.
when i was little i used to think that rape was where you used a rake to attack someone

I used to believe that if you did not keep your shoes tied, that the police would arrest you.
When i was little, i was so scared of going to prison for some weird reason, that i wanted to become a policeman when i grew up, cuz you know, policemen never go to prison, they are the good guys, the ones that noone suspects, and that never do anything wrong (since they know the rules).

I used to believe that if you were on trial and you told the truth, they would let you go, even if you were guilty
When I was young I was in the car with my Grandma and Great Grandma (her mother). To avoid confusion I asked if I could call one Grandma F and the other Grandma R (the initials of their last names). Well Grandma told me no because it was illegal and I believed her for years!
When I was young, there was a lot of public service advertisements about the danger of sniffing glue - it being addictive, and will cause you to suffocate etc.
I took this to heart so much that when we did arts and crafts at school, i used to hold my breath whenever the kid-friendly paper glue was anywhere near me
When i was little, I saw a sign in a store that said "shoplifters will be prosecuted."
I somehow got it into my little head that if you tried to steal your hands would be chopped off.
